The Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies is an outstanding location for training the next generation of qualified professionals.
The Center sponsors a variety of activities during the academic year, including lectures by distinguished visiting speakers, workshops, and conferences; a calendar of events is distributed via monthly newsletter. Students regularly participate in a full range of exchange programs in the former Soviet Union and Central/Eastern Europe sponsored by various organizations.
The increased need for area specialists in the former Soviet Union and East Europe has expanded career opportunities for students majoring in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies. The recent development of commercial and economic ties between the U.S. and these countries has led to more than 150 joint projects now underway in the following areas: resources management (such as oil extraction and mining), science, health, transportation, agriculture, and housing. Companies engaged in these projects often seek qualified employees with background in the appropriate area and language studies.

ShowThe Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies major, as with most Liberal Arts majors, develops students' critical thinking, writing, and research skills as they immerse themselves in the literatures, cultures, and languages of the Russian, East European and Eurasian regions. Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies majors will become proficient in a related foreign language of their choosing: Russian, Czech, Polish and Serbian Croatian. This major provides students with a strong set of transferrable skills, as well as an in-depth knowledge and appreciation of the literature, culture, art, and music of the Russian, East European and Eurasian regions applicable to a number of different career fields and/or graduate study.
