Major Uteach Dance

UTeach Dance integrates advanced pedagogy in dance, leading to teacher certification with the professional artistic training and performance opportunities of the B.F.A. in Dance.

Students train in daily technique classes in ballet and contemporary dance forms, while also enjoying a curriculum that consists of practical and theoretical studies in performance, choreography and related dance studies. Students perform and participate regularly in the department’s award-winning dance company, Dance Repertory Theatre.

Students interested in UTeach Dance are invited to apply to the certification program during their sophomore year of study.

Students must first apply to the B.F.A. in Dance through ApplyTexas. and submit a Department of Theater and Dance application.

Required Courses

The professional development sequence leading to Texas state teacher certification for Dance grades 6-12 is a total of twenty-four (24) semester hours and incorporates extensive field experiences, including a semester of internship and a semester of student teaching. Our dance certification program is grounded in holistic and research-based best practices in teaching dance that facilitate skill development, dance-making and literacy as well as history and legacy.
